01:06

As a seasoned female service-based business owner, your journey has been one of resilience, of growth and transformation. You've honed your skills, built a loyal clientele and helped change lives through your services. But today, as you stand on the threshold of further growth, you face a new challenge. Your online presence hasn't evolved with your business. Your website copywriting and branding no longer mirror the high value transformation that you offer, and it's creating a disconnect that could be hindering your business progress. If you've been running your business for three years or five years or even longer, and you're still using the same website, the same copywriting and the same branding from when you first launched, it's time for an update. It's time to align your online presence with the evolved version of your business, because outdated websites, ineffective copy, inconsistent branding, unclear messaging and difficulty in showcasing your expertise these aren't just pain points. They are barriers preventing you from attracting more clients, driving sales and realizing the full potential in your business. Upgrading your website design, revamping your copy and refreshing your branding can breathe new life into your online presence. It's all about ensuring that every aspect of your business, from your website to your social media posts, everything - is working towards the goal of attracting more clients, generating more sales and growing your business.

02:53

So let's jump in, and I'm going to start with your website. A tired, outdated website is a barrier to connection. Websites are like your online storefront, and if they're not spruced up regularly, they can start to look a little bit shabby. Your website is constantly on, is constantly working. It's like a workhorse is up and running 24 seven, narrating your brand story, and it's often the first point of contact for potential clients.

03:26

And if your website is still stuck in the era of when you launched your business, it's probably sharing a message that no longer aligns with your current brand values or services, and it can also attract the wrong audience - individuals who are not your ideal clients. Your website might also look unprofessional, and that erodes your credibility, and it creates the impression that you're out of touch with current trends. You're out of touch with client expectations, and all these things outdated design, poor user experience, non-responsive layouts, all the things can deter your potential clients, so it stops you from growing. So by updating to a modern, streamlined, user friendly format, your website can transform your business. Modernising your website is not just about giving it a facelift. It's about ensuring your online presence really mirrors your professionalism, your credibility and the evolution of your brand. It's about creating a digital space that invites connection, that fosters trust and facilitates the growth of your business.

04:43

Now you can't have a website without website copywriting, but ineffective copy = lost in translation, whereas persuasive copywriting = connection and sales. Copywriting is an art, and it's one that requires a delicate balance between showcasing your strengths and speaking to your audience's needs. If your copy isn't compelling or doesn't speak directly to your ideal client, you might be losing out on opportunities to connect with people and to convert browsers into curious, into sales. So words are more than just mere symbols on a page. They carry the power to inspire, to connect and to instigate change, and, as a server provider, your website copy should be doing just that. It needs to act as a bridge between you and your potential clients, and it needs to illuminate your UVP, your unique value proposition. It needs to detail the nuances of your services and paint a beautiful picture of the benefits that await your clients when they work with you.

06:02

But many women in business really struggle with this aspect. They often find themselves underselling their strengths, struggling to express the transformative impact that they can have on their clients' lives or businesses, and it's because they don't want to be seen as 'tooting their own horn', so they shy away from talking about how amazing they are, which is actually more harmful than helpful to growing their business. So consider this. If it's been years since you first drafted your website copy or hired someone to do it for you, the chances are it is still echoing the voice and value of your past self. It's like trying to fit into an old pair of jeans. You used to love them, you'd slip them on easily and feel amazing, but over time you might have popped on some extra weight, and now you can't get them over your thighs or do up the zip. They just don't work for you anymore. And it's the same for your website copy. If it's still sharing the same message from five years ago, it simply does not represent the more refined, seasoned and valuable business persona and business service offerings that you've developed and grown into. So combine this with the common reluctance to toot your own horn, and you end up with website copy that is flat as a pancake and fails to reflect the dynamic business owner and business services that you have and the services that you provide. And this misalignment means you're not communicating effectively with your target audience and it could be sending the wrong message about your current offerings.

07:54

So refining your messaging to resonate with your target audience is more than just a task on your to-do list. It's an essential strategy for your business growth. It's not about being self-centred or boastful. Instead, it's about harnessing the power of words to work for you, for turning casual website visitors into loyal, engaged clients. So here's an example. Suppose you're a life coach specialising in career transitions.

08:29

Your old copy might say something basic like 'I offer career coaching services', and while this is really accurate, it's also generic and uninspiring and as flat as a pancake. So now consider, if you said, 'Embark on a transformative journey to unlock your career potential and navigate life's crossroads with confidence.' This revised copy, it actually speaks directly to your target audience. It outlines the transformation that they can expect and makes it clear that you understand their challenges. Your words are the ambassadors for your brand, so you want to make sure that you're sending out the right message. After all, great copywriting isn't just about selling. It's about storytelling and telling a story your clients can relate to and that they are a part of. And you can't achieve that with your old, tired, boring copy from five years ago. So, hand in hand with your website and copywriting is your branding. They truly are the power trio. So let's talk about the importance of relevant branding.

09:42

Inconsistent branding equals misaligned clients and confused perceptions of your business. Your brand is more than a logo or a colour scheme. It is the essence of who you are as a business, it's a mirror that reflects your values, your personality and the promises you make to your clients. However, as your business evolves, your branding can often lag behind, leading to inconsistency and outdatedness, which can potentially disrupt the customer experience. So when your branding doesn't align with your current business vision, it can actually dilute your market presence and undermine your credibility. And the more outdated your branding is, the greater the dilution of your market presence and the wider the gap between attracting the right or wrong clients.

10:35

You're going to get more wrong clients than right ones, and that's not what you want. So an example of this could be a business that started out selling handmade crafts. So you've started an Etsy store, you build it making all these pretty handmade crafts, but over time, you've evolved into a high-end home decor retailer. So if your branding still reflects that homemade, handmade, crafty, DIY aesthetic, it's not going to attract customers looking for premium home decor products, is it? So you're going to be attracting the wrong people. It's going to affect your business's bottom line, and the people that come to you are going to be completely confused and think 'Where am I', 'Why am I here ?' and the people you want to come to you won't even look at you. They won't even consider looking at your business because they think you're all DIY, handcrafted, whereas they want more high-end.

11:45

So consistent, cohesive branding is really crucial in creating the right brand experience that resonates with your target audience, and achieving this requires a comprehensive review of all your brand elements. So, depending on how much your business and future vision have changed, you could get away with a simple refresh. But if you've had a major change, like going from the DIY handcraft to the high-end home decor business, you would need a complete overhaul of your entire brand to capture the new direction and really effectively communicate it to existing and prospective clients. I love Apple products, so I'm going to use Apple as an example. Apple has maintained a beautiful, consistent branding strategy that emphasises simplicity, innovation and premium quality. This consistency in their branding is reflected in everything from their minimalist logo, their sleek product design to concise copywriting and really user-friendly interfaces. As a result, Apple has built a strong brand identity that appeals to consumers who value these qualities.

13:11

So you want to think about that when you're thinking about your branding. You want to attract the consumers, the clients, who value the qualities that you possess and that are important to your business. So refreshing your logos, adopting an on-brand colour palette, carefully selected typography and imagery, really can help portray the true essence of your business, and the result is a unified, authentic brand identity that appeals directly to your ideal clients and increases your sales, your profitability and everything will be elevated. So, remember, businesses evolve, and so should their brands. So don't let outdated branding hold you back. Instead, embrace the opportunity to reinvent your brand and create an identity that truly represents the business you have become, and then the people who find you will automatically know they are in the right place just by the look and the feel that you provide them through their branding. And combined then with the functional, beautiful, modern website and the really seamlessly crafted, well-considered copywriting, it's the perfect package, and they will just feel right at home. So what's next?

14:43

After being in business for a number of years, quite often the thought of refreshing your entire online presence to match your current vision can really feel like an unwanted backwards step, because you've got to do it all again. Even though you've got years of experience under your belt, it can be tough to distil the wealth of knowledge you have into clear, concise messaging and the right look in your branding and the functionality on your website to connect the dots. So what many business owners do is just sweep an update under the rug for 'one day' that never comes, and leave it there, hoping that they'll just get by without it because it's all just too hard. Now, if you're nodding along, thinking, 'Yep, that's me! I've swept it under the carpet!', then listen up.
